How grandparents’ homeware becomes today’s home decor

In Taiwan, “Lou” refers to woven bamboo baskets of yesteryear, which could be found in virtually every household. Drawing inspiration from these nostalgic vessels, Taipei-based Gridesign Studio designed a lamp using a section of Moso bamboo as the base and a woven bamboo basket as the upper lamp shade. The Lou Lamp pays tribute to Taiwan’s traditional handicraft and early Taiwanese people’s resourcefulness, while also offering a unique light fixture that cleverly uses woven bamboo patterns to accentuate any interior space.
