A bamboo archway formed by ladder

At the Venice Biennale 2006, William Lim’s installation, Ladder, imagined as an archway, uses a vernacular bamboo construction technique unique to Hong Kong. Made up of hundreds of bamboo ladders tied together with a traditional hand-knotting technique, it has the solidity of a Chinese fortress and gives viewers the feeling of witnessing an optical illusion, a never-ending row of gates forming an elongated entrance.
