Combining bamboo with other materials to offer contrast

Coming from an eclectic background including electronics product design, visual design, and spatial design, Gridesign Studio’s Lin Ching-ke is no stranger to combining materials, such as metal and plastic, in his previous projects. Once he took up an interest in working with bamboo, he has been doing the same with the new material, and much to the surprise of many, created the Into Mirror that combines a woven bamboo basket with a mirror. It is a contrast between a flat surface and a sculpture, modernity and tradition, virtual and real, and cold and warm. Functionally, it gives the user storage in a space that was previously not thought possible.
