A familiar tool in an unfamiliar context

“MT Ex” stands for Masking Tape Exhibition, and can be more appropriately described as a site-specific installation using masking tape of different colours. These familiar paper and plastic composite tapes created surprising patterns, some of which even spilled out onto the surrounding landscape. Japan’s iyamadesign inc. used MT Ex as a design tool to revive communities across Japan. In October 2013, MT Ex Sendai was held in Sendai, Miyagi prefecture.
