Beautiful timber chosen to build homes for the elderly
Locally sourced timber from Mount Yamizo gives the assisted living community of Yuimarl Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, its character and identity as the material was extensively used in the framework, floor, and exterior. Building materials such as wood were chosen for their tactile and ambient qualities as it is often through touch, colours, shapes, and temperature that elderly residents in these 70 dwellings come to experience the world. A dozen or so pet-friendly units are grouped together in an enclosed courtyard to offer a sense of community. Dining facilities, a library, and common areas also offer residents a chance to socialize. Yuimarl Nasu was designed by +New Office.
