How a classic chair design in Indonesia evolved for the global market

Although the Rakata Chair evolved from the classic Indonesian lounge chair, the chair is designed with the Japanese market in mind. Made of teak, oak, and ratten, the chair features a streamlined and proportioned form as well as craftsmanship that has been passed on for generations. Teak has traditionally been used in furniture making in Indonesia for its durability and beauty, and in particular, its ability to mature naturally with age. Different materials are co-joined seamlessly, and the fittings between the wickerwork and the wooden parts are meticulously concealed. The team at Karsa, an Indonesian furniture and home accessory brand, designed the Rakata chair.
