SUSTAINABLE FASHION
Fashion Clinic was launched by Hong Kong-based designer Kay Wong in 2018. Known as the Fashion Surgeon, she hopes to encourage consumers to take better care of their clothes, and advocates choosing well and buying smart. Kay would like to close the consumption cycle loop, and alleviate the explosive growth in the production and consumption of fast fashion. Fashion Clinic aims to create a new system that provides redesign services to heal the industry, meet consumers’ desires, and enrich their wardrobes.

The company specialises in redesigning and upcycling deadstock garments and material for individuals, fashion and lifestyle brands as well as corporates, NGOs and theatre groups, creating fashion pieces, artwork, home furnishings and costumes, and Fashion Clinic pop-up workshops invite consumers to bring in old clothes to be transformed into personalised fashion items or home accessories. Having taken measurements, they pick a style for new pieces that sparks joy. The process involves the deconstruction and reconstruction of garments, recuperating and working with leftover or surplus material, embroidery, needle punching, print and sewing, all done in the studio in Hong Kong. It is exciting and momentous for Kay to be able to transform something like an outdated red jumpsuit, or multiple different pieces into one stylish new creation, and to learn the story behind each of these pieces.

Fashion Clinic hopes to encourage today’s consumers to take better care of their clothing by repairing, reshaping and redesigning preloved garments. She gives cast-offs a second chance through ecologically intelligent designs and handcrafted details.
