GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
Kintsugi is a traditional art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. The spirit behind the craft is to treat the repair as a work of art, because the additional labour, as well as their stories, are embedded in the object. Practising and teaching kintsugi in Hong Kong is an opportunity to re-evaluate our relationship with the earthenware that we own, and to create perfection from imperfections.

In addition to its own value, everyday objects become the memories of the users, and even the stories of many generations, and elevated to the spiritual level of value. Therefore, the broken objects need to be repaired have become a matter of course. The most valuable thing in kintsugi is to honour and value something that appears broken, and bringing back the imperfect beauty of the restored pieces.
