‘Oltre Terra’ is book accompanying exhibition and research project by Italian designers Formafantasma. The design of the catalogues refers to research driven book typologies such as the botanical guide, the academic book, and the encyclopedia. This is expressed in the high density of the page layout, the serif font, the creamy paper, and the physical and tactile typographic covers. Following the content, which is eclectic, contemporary, and investigative, the design questions the elements from which it is composed. This can be seen in the application of a flexible grid, the use of contemporary typefaces that are historically inspired, and experimentation with printing techniques on the light but highly bulky paper.
