    Designer Sharing: Open Page: The Art of The Creative Process

    Five local young designers, namely Chan Hei Shing, Orange Chan, Roger Ng, Renatus Wu and Sunny Yuen, will co-present the “Designer Sharing: Open Page: The Art of The Creative Process” to share their creative concept of publication design and establish a cultural platform for dialogue exchange to stimulate thinking.

    Chan graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2006 with first class honours in Visual Communication Design, and received a scholarship to study in the UK, where he graduated from MA in Book Arts at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts, London with Distinction. He went on to serve an internship at The Guardian and win the Young Writers’ Debut Competition, which led to the publication of his first book POP-UP LONDON: exploring the secret of Book Arts. He won the Swatch Young Illustrators Award 2010 (Book Art Category) with another title moon. under. alone. drink, which was exhibited at the Opium Den Exhibition in Berlin, Germany. Hei Shing returned to Hong Kong and in 2014, he was honoured with a Merit (book) in HKDA Global Design Awards 2013 for The Death of Lao She. He was selected as one of the 40 under 40 by Perspective magazine.

    A designer and MV director based in Hong Kong, Orange established his own design firm ORANGE CHAN DESIGN in 2009. His expertise encompasses branding, MV, album cover and other categories in arts and culture. He was part of the creative forces behind projects like Ten Years, Mad World, Breakazine and K11. Orange is the winner of a plethora of local and international awards, including Golden Pin Design Award, DFA Design for Asia Awards, and Package Design Award of Topawards Asia from Japan.

    Roger Ng, Associate Art Director of Blackpaper Limited. Graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University, major in Visual Arts. “Design is not limited to commercial use. Design can speak for the society.” As a graphic designer and artist involved in editorial design, cultural design and design education, he defines the function of design with excitement. He believes that a good design can even motivate social innovation. Roger established “noonhappyhour” creative studio in 2010 and wishes to participate in projects related to community and contribute to the society.

    Renatus is the founder of the design workshop Edited and the independent bookstore Book B. In 2013, he founded the publisher Mosses, which focuses on independent publications and exhibition curation. The house has its own printed journal A Piece. He won several awards including ‘Hong Kong Best’ from HKDA Global Design Awards, and GDC Award, etc. His books were acquired by the Takarazuka Media Library collection in Japan. From book designer to publisher and to bookstore manager, Renatus stays true to his experimental spirit in his creative pursuits.

    Sunny Yuen (a.k.a. sunnysunshine), Art Director of Blackpaper Limited. He was born in Hong Kong in 1985, specialises in book, branding and cultural-related design. Sunny defines graphic design as a visual thinking method with an accurate analysis by the art composing and imagination. He cares about the end-users’ experience not only by the visual but also the timing and inspiration. He is passionate in bringing Hong Kong visual culture and typography to the commercial design field, and truly believes a good design can lead people to a better world.
